Canker-soresMouth ulcer is also known as aphthous ulcer or commonly known as canker sores. As the name suggests, these ulcers occur in the lining of the mouth and are very painful. Canker sores occur in the mouth or on the tongue due to which they are a cause of discomfort to a person when eating. Any spicy or hot food will aggravate the sore and takes more time to heal. Instead;

during this time if the person restricts his eating habits; the canker sore can heal faster. Teenagers and women suffer a lot from canker sores due to hormonal imbalance however the canker sore takes very little time in abating. Though these sores are difficult to bear but if resisted they heal by themselves within a week without medication. Still there are some home remedies which can help in waning pain.

Symptoms of Canker sores:

Some of the main symptoms through which one can identify canker sores are as follows:

  1. Canker sores always occur in the mouth or on the tongue,
  2. There is presence of burning or tingling sensation in the area where the sore develops,
  3. They normally heal within a week,
  4. Discomfort while eating and talking in the mouth,
  5. Under serious conditions; symptoms fever, listlessness or sluggishness, and swelling or inflammation of the lymph nodes. It is advisable to consult a physician in this case.

Causes of Canker sores:

The main cause of canker sores is still unknown yet there are some reasons for their cause such as:

  1. Canker sores indicate malfunction in immune system,
  2. Nutritional imbalance
  3. Eating unhealthy food such as chips, nuts or rough foods,
  4. Hormonal changes,
  5. Bacterial infection,
  6. Sometimes biting the inner portion of the mouth,
  7. Acidic food and GIT diseases,
  8. Menstrual periods,
  9. Canker sores are also a sign of development of wisdom teeth,
  10. In children canker sores occur during the appearance of new teeth.

Home Remedies for Canker sores:

  • Use raw onions and apply them on the sore. The effect is immediate.
  • Applying tea tree oil on the sore or use wet tea bag on the canker sore helps in alleviating the pain and discomfort.
  • Papaya fruit is a good option for canker sore. Eat papaya fruit or chew its leaves.
  • Rinsing mouth with aloe juice is another good remedy
  • Take a pinch of salt and mix it with warm water. Rinse the mouth with this warm salted warm.
  • Prepare a solution: 1tsp. soda, a pinch of salt, warm water. Mix all the ingredients and rinse your mouth with this solution.
  • Prepare a solution: 1 tsp. baking soda, a cup of warm water. Mix the soda in the warm water and gargle your mouth frequently.
  • Prepare a solution: 5-6 drops of extract taken from grapefruit seeds, water. Grapefruit seed is a good disinfectant. Rinsing the mouth with this solution at least once a day will help in reducing canker sores.
  • Applying Plum juice on the sore with a cotton ball; it is a good remedy. Otherwise, use plum juice to rinse your mouth. It is quiet effective.
